Amita graduated from University of Newcastle, NSW Australia, in 1995. She worked in Singapore prior to moving to the US in 1997 and has been practicing occupational therapy in a variety of pediatric settings since that time. She is licensed by the State of Oregon, certified by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy, and is a member of the OTAO.
Amita is passionate about treating the whole child by integrating different frames of reference to increase the child’s response to therapy and to reach goals. She believes that coordinating care between the family and other care providers is the key to success to empower the family to follow through at home, school and in the community.
Amita has advanced training in a variety of techniques for children including Linking play to function, DIR/Floortime, Sensory Intervention, Baby treatment, developmental positioning and handling, Neuro-Developmental Treatment, Handwriting Without Tears, Oral-Motor skills, SOS Feeding, Therapeutic Listening Program, Craniosacral Therapy, and Kinesiology Taping. She has extensive continuing education in Sensory Processing Disorders, Autism Spectrum Disorders, and ADHD.
Amita is a mother of two wonderful children, and as a mother understands the importance of including the parents in the treatment process and working with them as a team. She loves traveling the world, hiking, yoga, community activities, art and crafts and cooking. In her free time, she enjoys reading and spending time with family, friends and her cat.
